TECHNICALLY CLASSIFIED
Technically Classified is an internet art piece using MARC records that attempts to look at several big ideas:
What are the limits of cataloguing and information organization? (When is it ethical? When can it be fun? When can it be poetry?)
What are our feelings about the analogue, as we experience the rapid ubiquity of the computer (and the digital) in our lives today? In this, when does obsolescence become attractive again? Does it ever lose its charm, and why?
Some of these questions come from my heart: I’ve always been drawn to the past and find a lot of solace in my grandmothers, who I talk a lot about the future with. I’m very scared of what the world will be like when I’m old, and it’s centred on the fear of losing the tangible technology that makes me so happy, and being around others who do not care about it. The encroachment of the digital is something we’ve all lived through, but I rebel against it, even when I learn computers and make websites :) !!!
